Carl D.M. Humphrey

Carl D.M. Humphrey is an Atlanta native. He is a 1999 graduate of Lakeside High School in DeKalb County where he was captain of the basketball team. While there he mentored young players in summer camps and volunteer programs. In 2003 Carl graduated of North Carolina A & T State University and joined the National office of the 100 Black Men of America as Chapter Liaison Manager until late 2007. In this role he assisted in the establishment of new chapters, building relationships between local chapter leadership and headquarters, and assisted in conference planning. He traveled the country implementing best practices to educate and mentor the youth in the various communities.

Humphrey has been a young ambitious entrepreneur, traveling to China to expand his knowledge in various international sourcing and trade opportunities. His previous work experience included event planning, business development, and working in the family businesses, Metro Records Management and Mail Centers Plus LLC. He is one of the first African American businessmen to open his own foreign independently owned local entertainment facility in Shanghai, China called Departure 10.

Carl has been a member of the North Metro Chapter of the 100 Black Men of America and Big Bethel A.M.E. Church in Atlanta.

In November 2007, Carl decided to move to Shanghai, China to give his full attention to his distribution, manufacturing and resource company. He established a themed food and beverage facility called Departure 10, which he created as a foreign-owned local business entity. He later continued his work with children with a basketball volunteer training organization called the Wrecking Crew. Carl lived in China from 2007 to 2013/2014.

Humphrey returned home and continued his entrepreneurship, while expanding into the corporate marketing space, joining Communicorp (a subsidiary of Aflac insurance.)
Humphrey also then expanded into contract management and consulting, partnering with Intellectual Concepts to build business development and relationships that would benefit the company’s bottom line.

“Coach Humphrey” has been a freshman basketball coach at the local Dekalb County high school Druid Hills 2016/2017, and has served as an AAU coach for the travel team 3 Point Play. Carl is now coaching at his former high school Lakeside High School in Atlanta, GA, and is expanding his network through youth sports, concentrating on sports training, information, and analytics collection, and life skills building with youth 8-18 years old.
