Purpose

The 100 Black Men of America, Inc. (The 100) places high value on Mentoring the 100 Way Across A Lifetime ®. The Collegiate 100®, a dedicated volunteer corps of college students, serves as roles models through mentorship to youth in underserved communities while enhancing their own personal college careers. Members of the Collegiate 100® assist their local 100 Black Men Sponsoring Chapter with the development of the social, emotional, educational, and physical needs of youth to increase their overall likelihood of success on multiple dimensions. Collegiate 100® Chapters are established on the campuses of colleges and universities and comprised of college students who share the service ethic of 100 Black Men of America, Inc.

To better recognize and highlight the true strength of the Collegiate 100®, 100 Black Men of America, Inc. is pleased to announce the 8th Annual Collegiate 100® Chapter of the Year Award. The purpose of this award is to highlight the “best in class” activities and projects of the Collegiate 100®. The award-winning activities and projects of applicants are made available to all Collegiate 100® Chapters to serve as a resource for ideas and best practice. The 100 Black Men Chapter must be in good standing to nominate their Collegiate 100® Chapter.

Eligibility

The Collegiate 100® Chapter of the Year Awards Program will recognize one Chapter that demonstrates excellence in the execution and attainment of the programmatic goals of 100 Black Men of America, Inc. in the areas of Mentoring, Education, Health & Wellness, and Economic Empowerment. All Collegiate 100® Chapters that are: (1) in good standing with their sponsoring Chapter; (2) actively engaged in the execution of programmatic initiatives endorsed by the sponsoring 100 Chapter; AND (3) have at least 20 active members on their official roster are eligible to apply. Immediate past winners of Collegiate 100® Chapter of the Year are ineligible as they cannot be selected in consecutive years. For example, 2017 awards recipients cannot apply in 2018, but can submit an application in 2019.

Award-worthy applications will be those that have a succinct description of how the Chapter excels at advancing the mission of 100 Black Men of America, Inc. Significant areas of focus should be mentoring, active membership, community service, advocacy, innovation, and collaboration. Also, detailed interactions with your Sponsoring Chapter and other student groups such as fraternities, sororities, Black Student Union, etc. will enhance the application and increase the likelihood of winning.

Evaluation and Selection Process

The Collegiate 100® Committee will review and evaluate the applications to select the Collegiate 100® Chapter of the Year based off the final rubric score. The winning Chapter will be notified in early May 2018 and MUST commit to attending the 32nd National Conference of the 100 Black Men of America, Inc. to receive the award. The Conference will be held in Hollywood, FL, June 14-17, 2018.
